Water Of Life

Though I search high and low
There is none as beautiful as thee
Deep reaching waters that ever flow
Laden with life-giving mystery

From whence do you come
O quenching Water of Life
What joyful song do you hum
On your bubbling, lyrical life

There can be none like You
For who can compare
To waters so deep and true
And forever exquisitely fair

Where shall I look
To quench my thirst
Is there another brook
Anywhere like the First?

Nay but they are all
Fountains of beautiful lies
Cracked cisterns of gall
Gushing in seductive disguise

They tease and tempt me so
Beckoning to my thirst
Promising relief in easy flow
Swifter solace than the First

Yet though I drink of these
I thirst again and again
Never fully appeased
Until I am parched to the end

But I will turn to You
Refreshing waters so pure
For a single drop of your blue
Will perish my thirst for sure

Lo, there can be none like You
For who can compare
To waters so deep and true
And forever exquisitely fair

Deep reaching waters that ever flow
Laden with life-giving mystery

“They have forsaken me; the Fountain of Life-giving Water; and they built for themselves broken cisterns that can’t hold water!” – Jer. 2:13
